  • 1999 was a breakthrough year for Max. He climbed nearly 200 spots and qualified a tour-high seven times in singles (tied with Huet).
  • Max's nickname is "The Beast." It was given to him by his best friend to annotate his fierce competitive style of play, as well as accenting his striking handsome features.
  • Max credits his dad, Nikolai, for bringing him into the world of sport, as well as providing support through all the highs and lows.

 

A Little More About Max

 

  • Max began playing tennis at age six with his father Nikolai. Max's dad then sent him to Brooklyn in 1991 where he spent 10 months training before moving to Florida to attend the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy. Max also spends part of the year in his native Minsk.
  • Max enjoys playing guitar, fishing and travelling the Tour with his computer.
  • Max speaks three languages (Russian, English, French and is learning Spanish.)
  • Max didn't play much junior tennis. As a youngster, he played mostly in Satellites where he gained most of his experience.
  • He plays well on all surfaces, but his best singles results have come on clay.
  • Max considers his service the best part of his game.
  • Max is a member of the Belarus Davis Cup Team since 1994.
  • Max has a little brother, Peter, born August 1, 1985 who trains with the family.
  • He already has a size 14 shoe, same as father and brother.
  • Max's dad Nikolai was a member of the Russian national junior volleyball team in the mid-60's.
  • Max's mom is Tatiana.

  • Since September 12th, Max has been a student of an international law faculty of Belarussian State University.
